Does couples counseling work?
The short answer is “Yes”. And, it may be hard to believe that it works, especially if you are having a lot of problems or are in a lot of pain right now. Having a successful relationship is very similar to other things in your life that you have become accomplished at. If you are committed to discovering new skills and new ways of being with your partner, then it is most likely that couples counseling will work to bring about the kind of changes you are looking for in your relationship.

Will we have to stay in counseling forever?
Couples counseling is not intended to continue indefinitely. If there are a number of serious issues to be addressed or if the relationship is in crises then you should expect to have a sufficient number of sessions to help get the relationship back on track. Other than that, couples sessions can be scheduled on an as needed basis. Couples counseling is a resource for when you feel stuck and need the skills of a professional couple’s counselor.

What if my partner doesn’t talk much?
Although couples counseling does involve communicating and talking to your partner, having a partner who is an introvert or who tends to be quiet is not unusual in counseling. A partner who participates in couples counseling with you speaks volumes. The fact that they have committed to improving the relationship is what is needed for couples counseling to be beneficial.

What if my partner does not want come to counseling?
If this is your situation, that’s ok. Attending counseling by yourself in order to improve your relationship can still be very helpful. Sometimes this is how couples counseling begins, with the other person joining in with the counseling later. Either way, whatever you learn while attending on your own can be taken back into the relationship and shared with your partner.

How long will we need to be in Counseling?
That’s a great question. Sometimes people come for a few sessions and have a dramatic effect, and for others it takes longer. Ultimately, it’s up to you.

Can you guarantee it will work?
I wish I could, because I want you to have the best relationship that you can. That’s my mission. What I can guarantee is, that in the time that we do spend together, I will give you all my wisdom and learning that can help you to have a successful relationship.

How often do we have to come in?
Most people meet with me once a week, sometimes more often if they are in crisis. Once goals are being accomplished sessions can be decreased to  every other week and sometimes monthly session.

What are your session fees?
The fee for the standard 45-minute session for individuals and couples is $140. The assessment fee for the 90-minute first-time couple’s session is $240.
